Treating chapped lips in the winter requires a combination of protective measures, hydration, and gentle care to soothe and heal your lips.

Here are some steps you can follow:
1. Stay Hydrated:
- Drink plenty of water to keep your body and lips hydrated from the inside. Dehydration can worsen chapped lips.
2. Use a Humidifier:
- Running a humidifier in your home can help maintain the moisture levels in the air, which can prevent your lips from drying out.
3. Avoid Licking Your Lips:
- While it may seem like a quick way to moisten your lips, licking them can actually make the problem worse as saliva evaporates, leaving your lips drier.
4. Protect Your Lips:
- Wear a scarf or a face mask to shield your lips from cold and windy weather, as well as from the sun, which can also contribute to chapping.
5. Use Lip Balm:
- Apply a good-quality lip balm or lip ointment with ingredients like beeswax, shea butter, cocoa butter, or petroleum jelly. These products create a protective barrier and help retain moisture. Apply frequently, especially after eating, drinking, or being in harsh weather.
My favourite product to use is nipple cream! It contains Lanolin which is excellent at maintaining moisture. Apply at night.
6. Avoid Harsh Ingredients:
- Avoid lip products with irritants like camphor, menthol, or phenol, as they can dry out your lips. Opt for fragrance-free and hypoallergenic lip balms.
7. Don't Pick at Your Lips:
- Avoid the temptation to pick at or bite off flaky skin, as this can worsen the condition and lead to bleeding and potential infection.
8. Stay Away from Citrus and Spicy Foods:
- Certain foods and spices can irritate chapped lips, so it's a good idea to avoid them until your lips heal.
9. Consider a Lip Mask:
- Lip masks are specialised products that can provide intensive hydration and repair. You can use them overnight or as needed.
10. Skin booster treatment for your lips
If you have tried all of the above and they haven't worked then its time for some professional help. Using a hyaluronic acid based skinbooter can inject some much needed hydration onto your lips and help keep them healthy and hydrated!
Remember that preventing chapped lips in winter is often easier than treating them. Regular lip care and protection are essential to maintain healthy, moisturised lips in cold and dry weather.
